Dewatering pumps are specially designed submersible centrifugal pumps.  Common applications include construction sites, tunnels, mines and in buildings to remove unwanted water.  Water containing abrasives requires a pump with an inlet strainer to prevent larger particles from entering the pump.  Removing water with solids may call for a sludge or slurry pump with toughened interal parts.  Dewatering pumps are often rated for continous duty and some can be run dry.
